Step 2 of 4
Connect a coding provider
Check a provider's connection and choose the model for your first conversation.

Choose a provider
Open Settings → Providers. Each provider has its own pane showing its executable, sign-in state, and configuration. Set up the provider you already use before adding more.
Codex: use the Codex pane and the Codex account authenticated on the host. Check that Farero reports the provider as available.
Claude Code: use the Claude pane and its own authentication. A working Codex account does not authenticate Claude.
OpenCode: use the OpenCode pane and the model services configured for that provider. Check the particular model you intend to use, not just whether OpenCode is installed.
When authentication is required, complete the provider's sign-in flow on the host. Keep account credentials out of chat messages. Farero's provider settings also expose permission, sandbox, and approval choices; review these before allowing a task to edit files or run commands.
Choose a model
Use the model picker for the conversation. Start with an explicit model so you know which provider will receive the task. Reasoning, Plan, and Fast options depend on the selected model and provider; unavailable controls are not interchangeable features.
Success means the provider is available and your chosen model appears in the picker. The small task in step four will check an actual response. If the provider is unavailable, see Troubleshooting.
